Jeremy Whalen, PharmD, BCOP
President & Founder
Dr. Whalen is the Specialty Clinical Program Director of Oncology, part of the Specialty Enterprise at Prime Therapeutics®. He received his Doctorate of Pharmacy at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He then completed a PGY1 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine and was the first PGY2 Oncology Specialty Resident at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Whalen received his Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) in 2010. He has been active as the primary preceptor for both student and resident oncology rotations and is a Clinical Assistant Professor for the Oncology Pharmacotherapy course at the University of Minnesota’s College of Pharmacy.
Paul Forsberg, PharmD, BCOP
Vice-President & Founder
Dr. Forsberg is the Director of Pharmacy and Admixture Services at Minnesota Oncology. Paul received his PharmD degree from the University of Montana in 2006. Paul has over 10 years of experience in an integrated health system, including working as a clinical staff pharmacist, clinical coordinator, and clinical manager in a community hospital. In his current role at Minnesota Oncology, Paul works closely with the physician and nursing leadership to develop, standardize, and improve the oncology pharmacy services provided across the practice. Paul currently co-chairs the MN Oncology Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee as well as the Clinical Practice Committee. He is also actively involved in the US Oncology Network, participating in the Clinical Economics Committee as well as the Collaborative Care Committee. Paul enjoys the challenge of improving the value of oncology care by identifying high quality, safe treatment options and finding innovative ways to minimize patient financial burden. Paul received his Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) in 2011.
Shirley Kern, APRN, CNS, AOCN
Secretary & Founder
Shirley Kern is an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. She has been practicing as an oncology nurse for over twenty years. Shirley graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She went on to complete her Master of Science degree in Nursing at the University of Iowa in 1998. Shirley works with a multidisciplinary medical team at North Memorial to coordinate care and navigate patients through the hospital and clinic systems. Shirley has been very involved in the community with oncology nursing and most recently served as the 2012 President of the Metro Minnesota Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society. She is excited to continue the journey of advocating for cancer patients.
Monique Giordana, PharmD, BCOP
Treasurer & Founder
Dr. Giordana is an Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist currently practicing in both inpatient and outpatient hematology/oncology care. Monique received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. She completed a general practice residency (PGY1) at the Dallas VA Medical Center in Dallas, Texas and a specialized hematology/oncology residency (PGY2) at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Monique’s interest in oncology arose during pharmacy school while working in a local oncology clinic. The impact pharmacists had on the patients’ quality of life had a remarkable influence in her future training and career path. During residency, she developed a passion for research and started a career working within the pharmaceutical industry on oncology education and research learning many valuable skills including drug development before returning to patient care. Monique’s passion for starting the Upper Midwest Oncology Education Network with colleagues stemmed from the need for current and exciting educational opportunities for oncology healthcare professionals.
Rebecca (Becky) Fahrenbruch, PharmD, BCOP

Dr. Fahrenbruch graduated from University of Nebraska Medical Center with her Doctorate of Pharmacy. She then completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, WA and an Oncology Specialty Residency at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. She became a Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) in 2002. She is the current Oncology Pharmacy Manager at University of Minnesota Health Oncology Infusion Pharmacy in Maple Grove, Minnesota and the Residency Program Director for the Postgraduate Year 2 (PGY2) Oncology Pharmacy Residency program. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy and a mentor for the Leadership Networking Partners program. She continues to be involved in leadership roles, committee work, a speaker for many local and national organizations including HOPA, ACCP, ACCC, and Foundation for Cancer Care in Tanzania. She continues to coordinate an Oncology Journal Club for Oncology Pharmacist in the Twin Cities area for 15 years.
